In partnership with Equal Heart AmeriCorps, The Golden Backpack Program (GBP) is recruiting for community oriented individuals to serve as AmeriCorps members to help feed hungry children in the Golden, CO area. The Equal Heart AmeriCorps program, is part of a national community service network that offers 85,000 service opportunities across the country in public safety, the environment, youth development, and disaster relief.  Equal Heart AmeriCorps provides 264 service opportunities throughout the United States primarily focused on increasing food access for children during the summer.

Members serving with GBP combat childhood hunger by providing nutritious food to children and families in need throughout Golden with GBP’s Fresh Food Pantry, weekend backpack program, and summer meals programs.  Apply here.

 Positions Available:

 Summer Meals Member – May 22^nd – August 18^th

For many kids, the only meals they eat are at school. We fight childhood summer hunger by serving free healthy lunches to kids 18 and under at 3 different sites around Golden. AmeriCorps members will serve a crucial role in coordinating meal sites, managing volunteers, and helping serve lunch, read books, and play with the kids!

Fresh Food Pantry Member – May 22^nd– December 22^nd

In an attempt to offer healthier meal options and continue our fight to end childhood hunger, the GBP recently opened a fresh food pantry (FFP) to serve families in our community.  AmeriCorps members will assist with the intake and sorting of fresh food, stocking our pantry, distribution of food to community families, managing volunteers, daily record keeping and the development of a FFP operational manual.

Member Compensation:

AmeriCorps members will earn both a cash living allowance and an end-of-term education award
